Group C results
- Algeria 1-1 Guinea
- Niger 0-0 South Africa
Uganda Cranes have only a point to play for Monday when they face off with South Africa in the last group C match in the TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
The Cranes remained top of the standings in the group following stalemates in Friday’s matches that saw Guinea and Niger hold Algeria and South Africa respectively.
In the first game, the Desert Foxes need a last-minute equaliser to draw 1-1 with the Syli Nationale putting them on 5 points, one behind Uganda Cranes who are on six.
Guinea took the lead in the 62nd minute against a run of play but with two minutes to play, Sofiane Bayazid levelled matters to the disappointment of the West Africans.
In the second game watched by a sizeable crowd, Niger frustrated favourites Bafana Bafana in a scoreless draw.
Twice, the South Africans had penalty calls overturned by VAR for alleged foul and handball.
That leaves them 3rd on the standings with 5 points and now must beat Uganda Cranes on Monday to reach the quarter finals.
Niger who are mathematically out of the competition will play Algeria at Nyayo stadium in Nairobi on Monday.
