A senior Kyambogo University lecturer has been dramatically arrested over an alleged plot to have his own step-sister killed — with investigators claiming he promised a staggering Sh200 million to the would-be assassin.
The suspect, Associate Professor Willy Okullu, was seized by detectives in Kabalagala on August 5, after a covert investigation exposed what police describe as a “cold and calculated plan” to eliminate his step-sister, Sandra Auma.
According to police sources, Okullu allegedly enlisted his cousin, Wicham Olee — a Kisubi resident and State House Anti-Corruption Unit employee — to carry out the killing. The deal, investigators say, was simple and deadly: murder Auma, collect the cash.
But the “assassin” was in fact secretly working with police, turning the alleged murder-for-hire into an elaborate sting operation.
“He promised Sh200 million if the mission was successful,” one investigator told reporters. “We intervened before any harm could come to the victim.”
The motive behind the plot remains under investigation, but police have confirmed they are exploring possible family disputes and financial disagreements.
Onlookers at Kabalagala Police Station were stunned to see the academic — known on campus for his calm lectures and scholarly work — being led away in handcuffs.
Olee, the alleged hitman-turned-informant, is now a key witness in the case. Police say his cooperation was crucial in preventing what could have been a gruesome family tragedy.
Okullu remains in custody as prosecutors prepare charges of conspiracy to commit murder, which could carry a life sentence if proven in court.
