CNOOC Uganda Limited, in partnership with Huawei Technologies (Uganda) Co. Limited, has launched a 10-day digital skills training programme for primary school learners and community members in Buhuka, Kikuube District, aimed at boosting foundational computer literacy and preparing participants for the digital economy.
The initiative, conducted using a mobile training lab known as the “Digital Truck,” is designed to introduce young learners — most of whom are first-time computer users — to the basics of computing and technology. Trainers are teaching participants how to use computers, identify their components, understand their functions, and develop basic typing skills.
Mr Liu Xiangdong, President of CNOOC Uganda Limited, said the programme focuses primarily on primary-level students while also extending opportunities to selected community members. The aim is to build early digital literacy, which can support future learning, employment prospects and meaningful participation in Uganda’s growing digital economy.
Instructor Moses Sebuwufu explained that the training caters to diverse needs within the community, including farmers and small business operators, by offering practical and relevant digital skills that can enhance both education and livelihoods.
The launch event brought together local leaders and educators, including the Local Council I chairman and headteachers from Buhuka Primary School, Starlight Primary School and God Is Able Primary School. School officials praised CNOOC Uganda for its continued support, noting recent contributions such as textbooks, desks and improvements to water supply that have enhanced the learning environment.
Through this collaborative effort with Huawei, early exposure to digital technology in Buhuka is being strengthened, fostering inclusive education and supporting long-term community development in line with Uganda’s broader digital transformation goals.
