Overview:
The President’s Cup tournament was organised to celebrate the current boss of Uganda Golf Union (UGU) Dr. Jackson Were who confirmed that this match play event will be a permanent fixture on the Union calendar.
The first edition of the President’s Cup championship at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa produced the anticipated sparks, thrills and ticked many boxes right.
Uganda National team captains Joseph Cwinya-ai and Peace Kabasweka won the male and female top prizes in the elite gross cluster.

Cwinya-ai beat Lake Victoria Serena and Spa’s home bred talent Andrew Ssekibejja during the finale on the 16th hole (3&2) in the exciting match-play to win a prize money of Ug.Shs 1,200,000.
“It was a good tournament to test one’s stamina and strength. I am happy for the victory. As a person, I am excited to return to the podium” Cwinya-ai remarked.
Kabasweka on the other hand overcame Meron Kyomugisha 4&2 in the final to take home Ug.Shs 700,000.

Other prizes:
In the subsidiary cluster played on the final day; Louis Joseph Luyima scored a maximum 45 points to take the overall prize.
Kevin Smith scored 41 points to win group A ahead of Kin Karisa (39) and Gilbert Asiimwe (38).
With 40 points, Paul Nsereko won group B. William Otieno (39) and Luke Nyakarahuka (37) followed suit.
The men group C pool was won by Patrick Tumwine who beat Allan Mugabi on countback after both golfers had returned 35 points.
George Kiongera scored 34 points to take third place.
Gertude Kityo scored 27 points on countback to win the female senior prize.
Eng. John Byabagambi scored 34 points to triumph on countback in the men senior category.
Elizabeth Weke (40 points) took the ladies group B top prize ahead of Joyce Mukua (38) and Nelly Njaga (36) in group B.
For group A, Lillian Koowe was champion with 36 points. Nerima Shaminah (30 points) and Rachel Ndei (26 points) were second and third respectively.
The nearest to the pin was claimed by Nerimah Shaminah (female) and Kevin Smith (male) whilst Patricia Nakasi (female) and Isaiah Tugumenawe (male) won the longest drive contests.
