If Chaos had a mascot, it would be the City Oilers at this moment.
With four losses in six games in the National Basketball League, the City Oilers are once again making headlines for the wrong reasons.
In an interview with NBS Sport, long-serving Oilers shooting guard Ivan Muhwezi responded to the club’s manager, Grace Kwizera, who claimed that Muhwezi went AWOL after receiving a salary advance. This statement left the basketball community in shock.
“I am deeply disappointed with Grace Kwizera for dragging my name into falsehoods,” Muhwezi stated. He added, “I never received any salary advance; instead, I was given rent arrears for the period from September to January.”

Muhwezi further clarified that his relationship with the club’s administration soured after he asked for a salary increase.
“All I asked for was a new contract with a salary increase. I spoke to Hajj Santur, and it was clear that if it was not agreed upon, I could leave. Since then, I have been sidelined,” he noted emphatically.
The shooting guard hopes to return to action in the second round of the ongoing NBL campaign, highlighting that he is training with another club.
“I will be back in the league in a month. I will be playing in the second round because I am actively training with another team and just waiting for my release.”
Reports indicate that he might be on his way to join his former teammates at Namuwongo Blazers.
The Blazers are currently atop the 12-team standings, with nine wins out of nine games, and Muhwezi’s addition would only strengthen their roster.
Is this the final blow for the City Oilers? Your guess is as good as mine.
