The 1-0 victory over Nigeria put Senegal, the defending champions ahead of group D with maximum points. Congo and Sudan have each earned a point.

Senegal edged Nigeria 1-0 in Group D of the 2024 CHAN tournament at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on Tuesday, 5th August 2025.
Christian Gomis scored the all-important goal for the defending champions.
Gomis beat goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal from close range in the 75th minute.
The victory puts the defending champions ahead of group D with maximum points.
The duel was the second of the double header at the refurbished Amaan stadium.


During the opening game, Congo rallied from a goal down to earn a point over CECAFA representatives Sudan in a one-all draw.
Hussein Musa put Sudan ahead in the 29th minute before Congo made amends through Carly Landon Ekongo’s equalizer with 6 minutes to play.
Meanwhile, action shifts to group B in Tanzania at the Benjamin Mpaka national stadium on Wednesday, 6th August 2025.
Burkina Faso hosts Central African Republic in the early kick off at 5 PM.
CHAN is played by players who feature in the respective domestic leagues on the African continent.
It is the first time that three countries are jointly co-hosting this championship.
Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are playing host to the rest of Africa in the delayed championship that was supposed to be held in 2024.
This is a dress rehearsal championship for AFCON 2027.
