Centenary Group affirms data centre will be ready by late 2025

Last month, Centenary Bank Uganda Board of Directors visited the Centenary Group Data Centre construction site in Masaka City, confirming the project remains on schedule for completion in late 2025.

The facility will serve businesses, banks, and organizations pursuing digital transformation across the region. Built with advanced technology designed specifically for African conditions, the data centre aims to provide reliable digital infrastructure for Uganda’s growing economy.

The Centenary Group Data Centre will consume 40% less power than conventional data centres through innovative cooling and power management systems. This design reduces operational costs while supporting environmental sustainability goals across the region.

“This data centre embodies our vision of meaningful inclusion in Uganda’s digital economy,” said Bwoch Gustavio, Centenary Bank Board Chairperson. “We’re creating opportunities for every Ugandan business, from small enterprises to large corporations, to participate fully in the digital future. This facility demonstrates Centenary’s commitment to ensuring technological advancement reaches every corner of our nation.”

The data centre features cloud-ready services and open-access connectivity, allowing all internet service providers to offer services through the facility. This approach promotes competition and improves service quality across Uganda’s telecommunications sector.

“Data centres provide the foundation for genuine digitalization,” said Bishop Callist Rubaramira, Centenary Bank Board Director. “Businesses need a secure, reliable data infrastructure to embrace digital transformation successfully. This facility will deliver the high-performance foundation Uganda’s digital economy requires.”

Centenary Technology Services has confirmed the project’s delivery schedule.

“We’re positioned to complete this facility by the end of 2025, targeting Tier 3 certification standards,” stated Dr. Grace Ssekakubo, the Centenary Technology Services CEO. “The green technology integrated into this data centre establishes new regional benchmarks. Our 40% power reduction represents responsible technology deployment that delivers world-class performance while respecting environmental considerations. This facility will demonstrate African innovation leading global standards in sustainable data centre operations.”

Construction has generated substantial benefits for Masaka City, with most supplies and materials sourced from local businesses. This procurement approach has strengthened supply chains, created employment opportunities, and built technical capacity within the community.

Local suppliers have gained experience and capabilities through their involvement in the project, creating economic benefits that will continue beyond construction completion. The approach shows how infrastructure investments can drive broader economic development.

The facility’s open-access design ensures all internet service providers can deliver services through the platform, supporting healthy market competition. This approach is intended to make world-class digital infrastructure accessible across the region.

As East African organizations accelerate digital transformation initiatives, the facility’s late 2025 launch positions it well to serve the growing demand for reliable, efficient data hosting solutions.
