Fold It, Ride It: The Harakka eBike Is Here to Change Everything

Forget the fuel queue. Forget the boda-boda fare. A quiet revolution is rolling through the streets of Kampala, and it folds neatly under your desk when you’re done.

Harakka eMobility, operating under the banner of “Freedom in Motion,” has built an electric bike tailor-made for the East African commuter.

The Harakka Foldable isn’t your average two-wheeler. It’s a clever answer to one of Kampala’s most stubborn problems: how do you get from A to B quickly, cheaply, and without arriving drenched in sweat or frustration?

The answer starts with the fold. In seconds, this e-bike collapses small enough to slide into a car boot or carry into the office. For commuters who mix driving with cycling, that’s a game-changer solving the “last-mile problem” with a simple click of a hinge.

But portability is only half the story. Under the hood, a 500W 48V brushless motor delivers serious torque, more than enough to conquer the different gradients without breaking a sweat. A 48V 10Ah battery pushes the range beyond 55km on a single charge, and here’s the kicker: a full charge costs an equivalent  of 480 UGX which is less than half a unit of electricity. Compare that to what a boda-boda spends on fuel in a single morning, and the maths become almost embarrassing.

Throw in a 150kg payload capacity, double suspension built for Uganda’s notoriously uneven roads, and both throttle and Pedal Assist modes, and you have a machine equally at home running errands as it is making deliveries.

More Than Metal and Motors

Harakka knows that selling an e-bike in Uganda means more than handing over a key and waving goodbye. The fear of a breakdown with no support to fall back on has kept many potential riders on the fence, so Harakka tore down that fence entirely.

Every bike comes with a one-year warranty and access to a dedicated team of on-site technicians. New riders are offered 30-minute guided test sessions where technicians fine-tune the settings and walk users through basic maintenance.

The People Powering the Movement

Harakka eMobility sits under the umbrella of Reliefline, a company with deep roots in delivering practical solutions across the region. From their base in Bweyogerere-Kazinga along Jinja Road, a team led by operations head Okono Emmanuel Opio is on a mission that goes well beyond selling bikes.

Their vision is economic: cut personal fuel costs by up to 90%, so that ordinary Ugandans, workers, traders, and small business owners keep more of what they earn.

The Price

The bike is currently available on a cash-only basis, with the starting price set at UGX 3,000,000. However, the company has an ongoing promotion where the Bike is retailing at UGX 2,500,000.

Harakka eMobility isn’t just selling transportation. It’s selling a smarter way to live and work in one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities. As Kampala’s roads grow busier and fuel prices remain unpredictable, the Harakka Foldable offers something rare: a genuinely affordable, practical, and forward-thinking alternative.

For those looking to experience the Harakka Foldable firsthand, the company offers test rides at their facility in Bweyogerere, opposite Stabex.
